Since January 2017, Agata Jakoncic has held the position of Managing Director at MSD Greece, one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the country, providing innovative medicines, vaccines, and life-saving therapies to patients.
During her time at MSD Greece, Agata has strengthened the company’s performance and inspired employees through a modern and innovative way of thinking that places society, patients, and people at the heart of business operations. Under her leadership and positive impact, MSD Greece has enhanced its Corporate Responsibility strategy, embraced new flexible working models and a culture of digital transformation. MSD has been awarded as a Best Place to Work, consistently ranked among the most sustainable companies in Greece, received numerous awards for its digital presence, and its products have been recognized for their innovation by the Prix Galien Greece.
Agata has played an active role in shaping health policy in Greece. Through the Pharma Innovation Forum (PIF), she leads the Market Access & Policy working group and has delivered position papers on four key topics. At the national level, she has contributed to the public dialogue through roadshows, participation in conferences, and thought leadership. At the European level, Agata engages in pharmaceutical policy discussions and proposes solutions in Brussels for a better future for the pharmaceutical industry in Greece—ranging from financial sustainability to unlocking the country’s digital health potential.
Originally from Slovenia, Agata has over 20 years of professional experience in American companies, having held various international roles based in Slovenia, the Balkans, the United States, the Baltics, Romania, and Greece. With a results-driven mindset, high energy, a passion for success, and the ability to create environments that inspire people to grow through learning and development, Agata effectively helps organizations meet their needs and paves the way for their success.
Her career at MSD/Merck & Co began in 1997, and since then she has held leadership roles in commercial, marketing, and supply optimization functions. She has served as Country Lead for Lithuania and Romania, Regional Lead for 10 Balkan countries, and most recently Cluster Lead for Greece, Cyprus, and Malta. Agata has also worked at Becton Dickinson and Schering Plough.
Agata Jakoncic holds a Master’s degree in Pharmacy from the University of Ljubljana.
